Information about the Author Wolfgang Jendsch

As a firefighter, paramedic and „Public Information Officer“ (PIO) Wolfgang Jendsch is specified among others on "Forest- and Wildland Firefighting" (Europe, USA) as well as on the „Fire- and Rescue Concepts of the EU-States“. He is member of the „International Association of Wildland Fire“ (IAWF, USA) as well as of the „California Fire Photographers Association“ (CFPA, USA).

In his main job Wolfgang Jendsch is working as a independent professional journalist for fire and rescue service, mainly active for editorial staffs, organizations and publishing companies in Germany, Europe and in the USA.

His photo archive encloses nowadays about 50,000 motives of fascinating quality about the international fire services and about fire operations. Wolfgang Jendsch had written up to now more than 30 professional books and numerious publications on „Fire Service/Fire Protection“.

As one of the main authors of the "Motorbuch-Verlag" (publishing company) he had published here his well known works.

Preface

Without doubt the subject "Firefighting" exercises equally a quite special fascination to experts and laymen - surely when it concerns the special form of the "firefighting from the air" (Aerial Firefighting). The numerous large and partly spectacular forest and wildfires of the last years in many parts of the world do in particular carefully on the efforts of the forest- and fire departments to get the wide and often disastrous fires under control.

The use of special fire airplanes (airtanker), fire helicopters as well as airplanes for special use within the scope of the forest- and wildland firefighting is therefore an essential part of all technical and tactical measures to the actual firefighting in forests, brush vegetation as well as in grass- and wildlands.

Interested readers will find in this book a huge number of airplanes which are used in the USA, in Europe and, in addition, worldwide by fire departments and fire agencies for battling forest- and wildfires from the air. Besides, the palette reaches of the about 100 well-chosen pictures here from the "Large Airtanker" up to fire helicopters of most different kind and dimensions as well as the to the "Jump Planes" for smokejumper up to special lead planes, command planes and transport planes.

The book offers therefore on its limited pages a representative overview about in the USA as well as worldwide used airplanes for forest- and wildland firefighting, with informative short descriptions, technical data and tips to the tactical use.
